Around Campus
Colleagues and friends recently celebrated the academic career of Jackie Spears, who twice served as the associate dean for academic affairs at K-State Olathe and as its interim dean and CEO. Spears has been with K-State since 1985 and with K-State Olathe from 2012-2013 and from 2016 until her retirement in January. Under her leadership, K-State Olathe experienced an increase in student credit hours; navigated the COVID-19 pandemic and had no outbreaks related to campus activities; and saw a number of programs grow, including professional development programming and clientele numbers at the Food Innovation Accelerator.
Nearly 60 company and community representatives attended a Manufacturing Roundtable that was held on the Olathe campus and cohosted by K-State Salina. The feedback about workforce needs will help bring in-demand undergraduate completion programs, professional development and training to the Greater Kansas City metro.
Fifteen undergraduate students spent a Saturday at K-State Olathe and the KCAS Bioanalytical and Biomarker Services getting a basic overview of lab equipment, protocols and procedures and completing several lab experiments and exercises. The workshop was designed for young scientists to be more industry ready.
